If the grass is greener on the other side, where is the ‘other side’?
The reports are in! An article in Professional Builders Magazine states that, according to the Pew Research Center, nearly 50 percent of Americans say they would rather live in a different community than where they now live. And of those people, most of them are looking toward the suburbs or smaller communities. Apparently, city dwellers were ‘less enthusiastic’ about their environments than those living in suburban, small town or even rural areas.
So, what does this mean to you? Is the grass really greener on the other side or does your grass just need some sprucing up?
Some people these days are looking for an opportunity to get out of the city and out into fresh air, less traffic and, in some opinions, a better quality of life. Others still would like to move back into the city where all the action is; entertainment, an abundance of restaurants, museums, theater, night life, more job opportunities and so on.
Taking into consideration that Atlanta, the metropolitan area nearest us, seems to have it’s share of press already and given the polls are saying that people would like to explore the idea of moving out of the city, I’d like to discuss what this really means to us in this area exactly.
After living in Atlanta for the last 20 years and recently moving to the North Georgia area, I have been very pleased with my decision to move. Over the last year of living here, I have had the opportunity to discover some pretty remarkable people, places and events that are common to this area and make this area unique. Even though I used to drive up here from Atlanta as often as I could, I never really had the chance to explore some of the gems that are readily available to those that live in this area.
I had become used to the noise, pollution, traffic and crime that ‘just came with the territory’ of living in Atlanta. I know there are some great things about Atlanta and those are some of the things that kept me there for so long but, I was just ready for a different quality of life that I believed I would find in the North Georgia area.
So, over the next several posts, we will talk about what North Georgia has to offer in the way of community, lifestyle and real estate opportunities. Maybe you’ll find that this is a move you’d like to make too and will begin to learn how to make this move possible for you. For those that already live in the North Georgia area, we will also be discussing ideas for remodeling your home, kitchen, bathroom and beyond so that the grass that is greener for you is in your own back yard!
